Uranium is Present on large scale in underground water of Indian States :
Recently, researchers have said that large number of uranium is present in the underground water used for drinking in many states of India. This is based on the study of water from tube wells of many states, including Rajasthan and Gujarat.
Researchers have found massive uranium in underground water of 16 Indian states. The findings have shown that the main source of uranium is natural, but human factors such as degradation of ground water level, extreme tapping of ground water for agriculture irrigation and nitrate pollution can increase the problem. According to researchers, urine in drinking water can cause serious kidney disease in many studies.
In the Rajasthan, we have tested about one-third of all water wells in Rajasthan. World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Environmental Protection Agency’s measure drinking water standards.
Avanar Vengosh (co-author of Duke University of America) said that Level is found. Vengosh said, “By analyzing the previous water quality studies we have identified the polluted level of fluid level in the 26 other districts of northwestern India and the high level of uranium in nine districts of Southern India.
This study published in Environmental Science and Technology magazine.Researchers took water samples from 324 wells in Rajasthan and Gujarat states for analysis of water chemistry.
In a subclass of the sample, they measured the ratio of uranium isotopes. They also analyzed similar data from 68 previous studies of geochemistry in ground water in Rajasthan, Gujarat and 14 other Indian states. Vengosh said, “The results of this study suggest the need to review the current water-quality surveillance programs in India and re-evaluate human health risks in highly potable areas of uranium.”
